She was late, but she also wasn’t hurrying. Why should she. Some stupid idiot thought he could teach her Defense Against the Dark Arts better than a professor. She really didn’t care the professor had assigned him to her, or that he was a grade higher than her. At the same time, she was going to suck it up and go. The last thing she wanted was another...incident, like last Christmas. So she was going to suck it up, and deal with whatever poor pureblood they thought was good enough to tutor her.

She stalked down the hall, her heels clicking loudly, announcing her presence as she moved through the halls. This time however, her heels were the only ones clicking. Her little gang wasn’t with her this time. She’d also taken the time to go all the way back to the dorm room and change out of her school uniform. It was nice enough, but she prefered her own, expensive clothes. The school ones just felt cheap.

Jacquie huffed as she reached the Library, pausing in the door. She really didn’t want to do this. It was stupid...she felt stupid. She rubbed her thigh where one of the really bad bruises been. It had lingered for weeks, before finally fading, but the memory was still there, fresh, as if it was just yesterday. She took a breath, clearing her head of the memories and hautly stepped over the threshold and made her way to the study rooms, fifteen minutes late.

She hadn't exactly talked to Émile Brice Belrose much over the summer, even though they had both gone to the summer school near Greece. She wanted to talk to him, but she didn't know what to say to him. Her home life was what it was, but his was, it was something she honestly couldn't comprehend. Sure, her parents didn't love her, not like she'd gathered other parents did. In fact, she wasn't even sure what it was for children to feel love from a parent, but she did know what it was like for a parent to be proud of their kid. Her parents weren't involved in her life. She had mostly nannies and tutors her whole life. She wasn't even sad when her brother died because she didn't know him almost at all, just that he was older than her, and with him gone, she was the only pride and joy of her family. It also meant she was sole heir to everything her parents had. But then she'd met Emile's father. She'd never been more disgusted by a man in her life. She couldn't help but yell back at the man, arguing with him. He'd tried to throw her out of his house, but she stormed out first, taking Emile with her. She'd apologized, not knowing what else to do, and left.

This year had been something else though. First there was the SPELLCRAFT letter in the post. She hadn't wanted to put her name in for champion, but he father had said she better, or else. She knew what "or else" meant, and she wasn't ready to feel that again any time soon. What she didn't tell her parents, was that she was hoping bb beyond hope that she wasn't picked, and her prayer was answered, much to her relief. She'd glanced down the table at Emile then, giving him a rare and very brief smile. She politely clapped alling with the rest of her school for her champions, knowing that Ari was probably livid she hadn't been picked.

A month had passed and she was gearing up for the more intellectual competitions. Hogwarts wasn't so bad as far as schools went. They kept setting up different things to entertain their guests. Beauxbatons was by far a note comfortable building to be in, but she supposed it could be worse. The flavor of the week this week was a corn maze, magically grown and then shaped into something fascinating, challenging, and perhaps a bit scary. She wasn't sure why she was curious enough to go check it out, but here she was, staring up at the incredibly tall corn that had been made into the maze. She was just standing there when she felt a presence come up behind her. She slowly turned, seeing Emile walking towards her and the maze entrance. She watched him come closer, her mind racing for words.

Emile Belrose
