<i>It has been one hundred years since the red comet landed in the world, and the world has finally found peace. After seventy long years of constant war, each country fighting for possession of the remains of a rare mineral found at the comet’s crash site, an agreement has finally been met to protect the resources rather than using them.</i>
<p>
<i>But not everyone was satisfied with the plan. The King in the northern lands of Skoiria has remained quiet in the years since, and going along with the agreement while secretly having his best sorcerers research the elements found within the comets remains. Rumors say that he is researching ways to resurrect the demon lord once more, in the hopes of obtaining enough power to conquer the entirety of the continent. To fight the resurrection of the demon lord, a goddess has blessed seven would be champions with a mark that should bless them with enough power to fight against the beasts that have started to plague the land.</i>
<p>
----------------------------------------------
<p>
<i><b>
“You have the mark. I don’t know why the goddess marked you, but you have been chosen. Hurry and get out of here. Go and find the other champions, and put an end to all of this. Find and stop whoever is working with the Demon King, preferable before he can be revived."</i></b>
<p>
Those words wouldn’t stop playing in his head. Over and over, they were the only thing he could think about since escaping his cell. Luke grumbled under his breath, as his gaze turned down to stare venomously at the mark on his hand. It was the reason for all of this. Why he’d been able to escape in the first place? But why? Why had he been chosen? He wasn’t anything special. He grew up in the most desolate of districts, forced to run away with his sister in hopes of persuading the King to send more rations to his village. Not that it would have helped. Even if he had made it to the capital, what was the chance that he’d even get anything?
<p>
Instead, he’d only made it halfway to Capital, only to be arrested in the city of Houri. A place loyal to the King through and through, with any pleas he’d made to pass through going unheard. It was there where Luke had been introduced to a small rebellion, and after being convinced by his sister the two joined. A foolish act. He was arrested shortly after along with whatever rebels had survived. The government had been aware of them, had been awaiting the day they would attack. When the day had arrived, they’d marched into a trap. Luke watched as many of his fellow rebels were slaughtered, along with his sister, and in the end, he was forced to surrender. Since then he was locked away in a cell, forced to wait for the day for when it would be time for him to be executed.
<p>
Several days he’d sat in his cell, until being visited by the strange girl. She’d told him to escape; to seek out the other champions wherever they may be, and yet no escape opportunities had arrived. Luke had tried. Even before the stupid mark appeared on his hand two nights ago, he’d tried to bust out numerous times. Nothing ever worked. The girl hadn’t even bothered to try to help him, instead of leaving him to figure it out himself. How the hell was he supposed to escape, when he’d already tried everything?
<p>
Luke continued studying his hand, eyes glaring at it while he silently cursed it. Why the fuck had he been chosen anyway? That question would never leave his thoughts. He wasn’t a warrior. He was a mere thief, sometimes even working as an assassin when the time called for it. There was nothing special about him at all. Even as an assassin he was an amateur, only becoming one because the revels had thought he’d fit the job better than anything else. He could wield a blade for sure, but he didn’t think he had the abilities to fight whatever monsters had begun to wake up in the world. If he ever did get out, he’d only die the moment he found himself in some real combat. He wanted to escape though, if he could find a way then he would do whatever he could to get out. No way in hell was he going to sit by and rot away in a cell, waiting for the day when he would be executed. Fuck that.
<p>
<i><b>
“You’re still here?”</i></b> a female voice whispered from behind the bars.<i><b>
“What are you doing? I told you to escape!”</i></b> Her face was filled with confusion, as well as some annoyance. Once their eyes met, contempt seemed to fill her features as she realized what the problem was.<i><b>
"You can’t, can you? Here, let me help.”</i></b>
<p>
He turned his head sharply as he heard the door opening, suddenly. How the hell? Luke turned to watch her, trying to figure her out. The girl had somehow managed to get a key, or maybe she was related to one of the guards. Or someone in power. Whatever the reason, she wasn’t a normal civilian. That alone gave him reason to be suspicious, and yet he felt like he needed to trust her if only for the time being.
<p>
Silently, she motioned for him to leave the cell quickly, something Luke didn’t’ need to be told twice. He darted out, not even pausing when he heard the door close behind him. It had happened. He had escaped, and he already felt he owed that girl something. What it was he wasn’t entirely sure? All he could hope was that he wouldn’t regret it later. The only way could think to thank her was to do as she’d told him. He needed to leave the city and to find the other champions as soon as possible.
<p>
It took a half hour of stealthily making his way through the halls of the prison before he managed to get out. As soon as his feet hit the gravel roads, Luke cast his eyes to the night sky above him. The stars shone brightly, with a small splinter of moon revealing itself. He didn’t waste another moment and quickly set off to find the quickest way out of the city. The sooner he could put the hell hole behind him the better, although if he was lucky he hoped to find someone who might help him escape.
<p>
He turned down street after street, occasionally looking behind him to make sure he wasn’t being followed. The last thing he wanted was to be thrown back in a cell, after all. Luke paused suddenly as he entered an alley. Someone was approaching. From where he was he could still hear the soft sounds of drunkards shouting coming from the tavern, but that wasn’t what caught his attention. A chill ran down his spine, as he heard someone moving behind him. He had been seen, possibly followed. Damn, he needed his blade. He was powerless without any of his equipment, all he had on him was a cloak and the clothes he’d been wearing when he had been locked in the cell. If he was to be attacked, he’d be completely powerless right then.
<p>
<b>“Who’s there?”</b> Luke hissed, as he searched through the darkness looking for whoever was nearby.
<b> “If you followed me to kill me, then show yourself.”</b> With no weapons at his disposal, he felt almost powerless. Still, if he was to die there, then he wouldn’t go down lightly. He would fight for as long as he could before falling to his fate.<p>
