Giles Bannister

Despite turning 30, Giles continued to go to bars and clubs. Juggling the work at the hospital, and some of his private activities that few know about, he still found time to get out on the social scene and have some fun. Contrary to his family’s hopes, he isn’t interested in a full on relationship at the moment. He is content with his string of short term relationships that last less than a month. Giles doesn’t believe a long lasting relationship is in the cards for him anyway, too many factors to bring in. Maybe it’s the fact that he tends to keep so many things secret from his friends and family.

After work, Giles decided he was going to go to the bar and have a few drinks. It had been a long day and he wanted to relax a bit before going off to an underground duel. Maybe. Well, he hasn’t exactly been told there is one tonight or not yet. He’s still waiting on the text to give him the details about when and where. That’s the problem of an activity that keeps changing its location constantly. One can never keep track of it and know when something is going to happen. But that is life, right? Full of unexpected events and surprises.

Walking down the street, Giles had his hands in his jean pockets. A cool Summer evening, fairly nice compared to some of the heat from the past few days. Approaching the building, Giles reached for the door and opened it, just as some lovely ladies were leaving. With a smile and a nod, Giles watched as they left. They were fairly attractive, maybe his plans will change tonight from a duel to something more… intimate. Walking through the doorway, his eyes scanned the bar.

Giles looked over the tables as he walked through and saw many different groups of people. Lots of lovely ladies though, which is a bonus for the evening. On the other end, there is a medium cleared area for people to dance. Of course there are a few people dancing, and the song playing isn’t so bad either. Perhaps he should go dance for a bit as well? First order of business however, should be getting a drink. It has been a long day and he’d rather have a nice cool drink to just relax. Wouldn’t be so bad to just sit at the bar itself and just people watch, right? Get a feel for the crowd before he makes his move.

So, that is what he decided to do. Giles walked over to the bar and took a free seat, which surprisingly there were still a few to be had. Maybe because there are quite a few tables and booths to take a seat at. Either way, Giles caught the attention of the bartender and ordered himself a gin & tonic. Turning his gaze to see who is sitting at the bar, Giles studied the atmosphere of the room. It was pretty jovial, all things considered. Perhaps Summertime love is still a thing. His attention was brought back towards the bartender when he got his drink handed to him. With a thanks, Giles turned once again to peer over the crowd as he sipped at his drink.

Quite a few people were sitting about talking, and laughing. Fairly jovial indeed. Leaning back against the bar, the healer just watched the movements as he sipped away at his gin & tonic. Just a fairly simple drink, nothing too elaborate. Chances are he’ll get stronger and more elaborate drinks later in the night, but for now just this simple drink. His blue eyes scanned the room, a part of him hoping to find someone to speak to. A little bit of social interaction will go well tonight. As he scanned the room, he saw someone sitting in a booth in the far corner alone, drinking.

Well that isn’t very sociable, or really that acceptable here. Giles felt he needed to change that. Finishing off his drink, he crossed his way towards the booth in question. As he approached, he started to recognize the person. Well for starters, blonde & female. So already a plus. But he recognized her from work, a healer by the name of Delilah James. Approaching, he could feel that something wasn’t right. For starters, drinking alone. Second, she’s an attractive woman drinking alone. And that just will not do.

Approaching, he slid into the open seat just opposite of her. “Hello.” he said with a warm smile across his face. Despite his flirty ways, and weakness to blondes, he still found himself wanted to help her out. The two have met before, and ran into each other at work. So it wasn’t exactly the meeting of strangers here. “Why so glum chum?” he asked with a light laugh. Hoping the laugh will lighten whatever is causing such a gloomy mood to befall this corner.

but I won't be your
yes girl
Lila had never really been the type of girl who went out a lot. After work, she normally went home rather than hanging out with coworkers or friends. But, honestly, Lila just… She just couldn’t go back to that empty apartment again. Not right now anyway.

Having commandeered a corner booth, it was clear she wasn’t socializing as much as steadily drinking on her own. Nevertheless, it was clear she’d put at least a show into this. Her hair was down instead of pulled up, and the glasses she normally wore to work were nowhere to be found. The red dress she wore wasn’t out of place, but neither was it a party dress.

Rather than people watching, Lila was starting into her glass as if it held some kind of answers. It was her second whiskey, and the buzz was settling in. As she finished it, and motioned to a passing waiter that she’d like another, her eyes caught the light that glinted off her engagement ring. The one that had sat on her left hand for the past five years. The one that she was doubted would ever have a wedding band next to it.

Lila drew it off her finger, spinning it on the table like a coin. Cole had texted her earlier today to say he had an important case and wouldn’t be home for a couple days. Hell, at least he’d texted this time. Last time she’d gotten sick with worry and had eventually called his office to find out what was going on. A sympathetic administrative assistant had filled her in. And neither of these were the first examples of problems like that. Things had just been getting worse lately as Cole took on more and more at work, putting it above her in some cases.

The blonde healer knew, deep down, she wasn’t happy in this relationship anymore. Every time she was left alone, or every time Cole broke a promise to her again, Lila had to fight with that revelation. She just really didn’t want to acknowledge that. She didn’t want to feel that. And she was terribly afraid of being alone. Cole was her first love. They’d been together since they were teenagers, and she didn’t know how to be anything else. She had wanted to spend her life with him, once, and now… now her heart ached more than it didn’t.

And then Cole would take a break from work, or surprise her with something thoughtful, or shower her with the love and affection she’d been craving. And Lila would fall for his stupid, beautiful face all over again and everything would be okay again. Until it wasn’t, and she was sad and lonely again.

Slipping her ring back onto her finger as her drink was brought, Lila nodded her thanks to the waiter who had brought it. To her surprise, someone else approached as well. Lila was about to deflect the man who had approached her to say hello, and then the recognition clicked in as he settled across from her. “Oh, Giles, hello,” she greeted, the surprised expression turning into a small smile. “I didn’t know you come here,” Lila said, fairly obviously. While she knew Giles from work, they didn’t exactly spend a ton of time talking about their social habits.

His question surprised her, and she looked flustered for a moment. “Oh, you know.” Lila shrugged and picked up her glass. “I’m on my own tonight, and you know what they say. Loneliness and whiskey gang together,” she quipped, raising her glass to her lips. Before taking a drink, however, she paused frowning. “Wait, that’s not right.” A beat passed where she tried to remember the line of poetry or whatever she was referencing. Freedom. Freedom and whiskey gang together.” Lila shrugged. “Close enough,” she muttered, finally taking a sip of her drink.

Nodding toward Giles, Lila looked at him inquisitively. “What about you, hmm? What does your evening look like?”

Giles Bannister

Being at this bar just continued to change his night’s plans the longer he stayed. The more he saw, the more he wanted to see where tonight took him. Of course, if his plans did fall through and there was to be a duel tonight, he’d have an out if things weren’t looking too good for him. He’d just have to wait for the word, but right now? No rush for it to come. He is just enjoying his people watching, the swinging of hips and the sounds of the music playing. Though instead of mingling with the livelier of crowds, the ruckus and the rowdy, he went with the quiet and solemn.

Much to the chagrin of his exs, Giles just could’ve leave a beautiful woman by herself to drink. That was just something he couldn’t comprehend, drinking alone when going out to a hotspot. Nightlife is meant to be spent with your friends, and enjoying the feeling together. However, this beautiful blonde woman just sat alone in a corner. No can do in that regard. Wouldn’t be gentlemanly of him if he let that slide either. Though really, he just enjoyed flirting with woman. And considering Giles taste for blondes…

Seeing that it is Delilah from work, well, he just definitely couldn’t leave her alone. Especially since she appeared to be alone, drinking instead of dancing or being with friends. After his initial greeting, she seemed surprised that he was here at all. Which only reinforced that feeling when she expressed that into words. Letting out a soft chuckle, Giles smiled at her. “I’ve never been here before. I just went sort of stumbled upon it.” he answered, turning his head to gaze upon the bar real quickly before turning back at her. “What about you? Come here often? From your statement, you’ve probably been here once or twice.” he asked, though adding on some thoughts he had. Might as well express them right?

It seems that his question ruffled her feathers, as it were. Hearing her explained herself a bit, and add on a misquote caused Giles to cock an eyebrow. Though she quickly corrected herself before taking a sip of her drink. “Well that just won’t do. A beautiful woman such as yourself, alone? Not on my watch.” he spoke, his body relaxing as it seemed that her mood started to cheer up. Seems she just needed someone to talk to, and he is just too happy to oblige.

“Me? Well,” he started, extending one arm so it rested on the back of the booth. “Just killing time, see if anything falls through for the evening. But I must say, even if I get confirmation for the, ‘event’, tonight…” he paused, a grin forming across his lips. “I think I found something more enjoyable tonight. Getting to know my coworker.” he finished with a wink. It didn’t take him long it seems to begin flirting. He has no shame, or is it more of when it comes to his attraction to the fairer sex, he just has no control over it? Cannot help himself, as it were.
