i wanna dance without you
for once just let me lose myself

Winters here at Hogwarts were not nearly as bad as they were at Durmstrang, and with it nearing the end of Winter, it was more than comfortable for Eliana to be outside. She was happy that it was starting to warm up into spring, meant people would stop piling up in the castle, leaving her feeling claustrophobic. She was not a fan of a lot of people around her, at least people she didn't know that well.

Eliana had spent most of the winter holiday holed up in her dorm room, going home for only a few days before returning. She had probably finished all of her coursework that was given over the holiday, which left her very bored as things slowly were coming to an end. She did not want to spend another day locked up in her dorm, but she was not about to hang out in the common areas with all the people.

It wasn't overly cold outside, warm enough that Eliana would be fine, but, hopefully, too cold that there won't be too many people outside. She grabbed a few of her course books, hoping to get some reading in. She dressed moderately in some dark jeans, knee high tight black boots, plain blue shirt, and black thin jacket. She left her hair down, which was unusual for her, normally having it up in a messy bun, but her hair would block some of the cold. She decided to bring her bag full of some school supplies in case she wanted to take some notes. Eliana knew that it wasn't normal for someone to want to study this much, but she really didn't care what anyone thought about it.

She made the trek down to the black lake, happy to see that no one seemed to be around. She sat down, taking out the first book from her bag, flipping through the pages until she found a few entries she hadn't read before. She pulled out some of the notebook paper and started taking down notes.

She continued taking notes until she heard someone approaching, and fast, almost as if someone was running. She looked up to see that someone was indeed running, but not towards her, just in the general direction. She almost went back to her studying before she realized who it was, making her a little intrigued about why he was out here. It wasn't every day she saw the Beta outside of the meetings she actually took the time to attend. She had always thought he was hot, but him being a fellow Durmstrang student meant he was strictly off limits to her. She had her rules afterwards, and what was a girl without her rules. She waited until he got a little bit closer, not wanting to yell.

"Hey, what are you doing out here in the cold?"

Freyr Sigurdsson

The early hours of the morning were still, the frost could still be felt clinging in the air - even in the dungeons of the castle. Most were asleep at this time, even for those in Hvergelmir, except for the Ulveflokk beta, who was already hard at training. Doing his early training regimen, which involved seventy-five sit-ups, seventy-five pull-ups (he uses the stone slabs to do that), and seventy-five push-ups. The cold in the air bites at his bare skin, and the stones against his skin have a burning sensation to them, yet he pushes through. All it does is reminds him of home, a cold and hard place.

Once his entire routine wrapped up, Freyr used a towel to wipe himself down of any sweat that may have accumulated over his workout. With that out of the way, he threw on his muscle shirt and a light grey hoodie. Just to go with his dark grey shorts which goes just below the knee. Putting on some runners, Freyr walked out of the common room just as the other students began to stir. He wasn’t about to stick around to wait for a social interaction he didn’t want. It isn’t like he’s anti-social… it’s just he doesn’t really see the point to it is all.

As he walked through the corridors leading out of the castle, Freyr sighed heavily. Despite it still being winter, it wasn’t that cold compared to home or Durmstrang. He wasn’t completely sure as to why some of these students were getting so worked up about this kind of weather. Winter holiday just wrapped up, there is still some snow left on the ground. Though really, after having spent some time in Iceland, this is like walking through a spring park. Stepping through the large wooden doors, Freyr exhaled and could see his breath drift off into the sky, a small grin formed across his features as he pushed forward.

The sounds of his footsteps against the stone path mixed with snow crunched beneath his feet, echoed throughout the space. His mind focused on the goal ahead and his blue eyes scanning the ground as he runs along the route towards the greenhouses, making sure he doesn’t kick or trip against something. As there could be a number of roots hidden beneath the snow waiting to trip him up. So far so good however, as nothing seemed to be wanting to trip him or snag him. And his route was well traveled at the time, possibly those who wish to visit the greenhouses for whatever reason.

Though Freyr wasn’t here for the greenhouses, as he continued running past the large glass buildings his mind started to wander. He started to recall what he did over the winter break. The period where he was at home in Iceland, spending time with his relatives. The whole lot of them fought over the littlest things, what to do regarding whatever - it didn’t matter, it led to a squabble. But Freyr had his own problems. He had a fight with his father - which started as words, nothing really extravagant. But it quickly divulged into a fist fight. Freyr had pushed his father and the two exchanged blows.

In the end however, Freyr was forced to sleep in the barn. Bloodied and bruised, he had slept in the large dark brown building on the edge of the property, the cold nor'easter winds would cut through between the openings of the wood and stir him awake throughout the night. He grabbed a small quilt located in the barn and used that as a way to stay warm, to stave off the cold that would come throughout the night. Yet he stayed strong, braved the cold that tried to claim him throughout the night, and came out of it stronger. Defiant against the man he calls his father.

Now rushing past the trees, he no longer has the stone pathways beneath him. His feet trudging through the snow, making his own trail. Damn the consequences of it all. But Freyr continued to push through, his mind now refocused on the task, no longer spinning back towards unpleasant thoughts of his home life. Freyr had to acknowledge his loss, to accept the word of the victor. That’s the way things work, if you lose, you have no say. You must go along with the others, and do what they ask. Unless it is a dishonourable act, never harm the innocent.

Freyr rushed passed the trees, along the school grounds and passed the groundskeeper hut. He still made his own trail through the snow, though it wasn’t that much. Possibly a centimeter or so. Nothing too out there. He continued to run as he started his loopback, now running towards the Black Lake. As he approached, he could feel the cold air nip away at him, and the sun cresting over the tree line peaking away casting long shadows with the trees. But he didn’t relent in his running and pushed onward.

As he approached however, a voiced called out to him. He slowly came to a halt and looked at where the voice came from - it was a girl he had seen before. Sees her around - on occasion - at the Ulveflokk fights, and one time during one of his treks into the Forbidden Forest. The air around him wasn’t particularly frigid, but he was in shorts… so y’know. Could be constrained that he’s cold. “Jogging.” he said, putting his hands into his hoodies pouch. “What about you? Training as well?” he asked, closing one eye as he approached and looked her over. What is she doing out here all by herself anyway.

i wanna dance without you
for once just let me lose myself

Eliana's love for school work and studying stemmed all the way back to her 2nd year of school at Durmstrang. Her first year she had spent mostly making as many friends as possible, hanging out in the dorms, going to Quidditch matches and so on. Pretty much the opposite of her now, where she avoided almost everyone if she could help it. Her instant change between the 1st and 2nd year had left quite a few of her friends confused, but over time, they realized it wasn't going to change, and she was left alone. She never really thought about how much her mother leaving had changed things within her, only seeing what it had done to her dad.

It had taken Eliana until her 7th year at Durmstrang to realize just how much her life would have been different now if her mother had never left. She would probably have been a lot more social, loving to go home on the holidays, still make good grades, no where near how good they were now, and hey, maybe she would have tried out a relationship or two during her time at school. Relationships weren't something that Eliana did, if she was ever with someone it was for a night, at the longest, and only because she needed distractions. She barely had friendships, no matter how many times these foreign students tried, it wasn't that she despised everyone like she claims, she just didn't want all the questions that came from friends.

All of this being said, why had she called out to this Durmstrang boy that she barely knew? They only spoke the bare minimum to each other at the fights, saw each other in passing in classes, and that one time in the forest. This was definitely not enough interaction for Eliana to stop what she was doing to initiate a conversation with him, so why had she? Yeah, the Ulveflokk Beta wasn't one of those people she considered annoying, he actually seemed to be more of a recluse than her own self, and him being easy on the eyes didn't hurt either, but still not a good enough reason.

She rolled her eyes at his response, shaking her head as she looked back at her books. She considered just leaving it alone there, letting him continue on with his jogging, but she looked back at him. "Well obviously you are jogging, I'm not blind, I can see. Just trying to figure out why are jogging so early and in the cold. Most people are still asleep or bundled up in the castle."

She knew that he was used to harsher winters, if they were at Durmstrang right now, there would be a lot more snow, spring not being a thought in anyone's minds. She didn't know where he was from originally, never caring enough to ask, but she doubted that it was warmer than it was here. Still, being used to harsh winters herself, she wouldn't have worn shorts of any kind out right now. She looked him over, a little impressed that he wasn't shivering or even appear cold with his choice of clothing. She looked back to her books and notes at his next question, turning her ice blue eyes back to meet his, confusion on her face. "Uhh, only if you consider studying to be "training." If that is the case, than yes, I am training the hell out of my potions skills right now."

She studied him curiously, is that what he was doing all the time, training? That is a lot of training, and from Eliana could tell, he didn't do a lot of studying. She didn't see him in as many classes anymore, not since O.W.L.'s fifth year. If she thought about it, she only had him in one class, and that was Combat class. He was actually one of the best students in that class, and Eliana was starting to figure out how. He might take his training as intensely as she took her studying, which is not something that Eliana normally saw. She had sometimes thought he was just one of those dumb big muscle dudes, but maybe he just had different goals in life, or maybe no goals at all. Who knew, and more importantly, why did Eliana care?

"Do you normally get up this morning to run? Seems pretty grueling to be honest with you, I could never do it."

In a way, this was one of the closest times Eliana had ever come to complimenting someone else. She wasn't going to make a big deal out of it though, she was simply giving someone the props they deserved.
